Partial Hospitalization Program for Men in Riverside County

Serious Support During the Day, Your Own Bed at Night

When symptoms are making it hard to get through the day, you may need more than a weekly appointment, but not a hospital stay. PHP is our most structured level of care. Treatment takes up most of your day, so you have real time to get steady, and then you head home in the evening to the people and places that matter to you.

At a glance

  • Best for men whose symptoms are making daily life hard to manage.
  • What a day holds: individual therapy, groups and psychiatric care.
  • Where you sleep: at home, every night.
  • Coverage: we work with most major insurance plans.

How PHP works

A Full Day of Treatment, Built Around You

Partial hospitalization, often called PHP, sits between a hospital stay and regular weekly therapy. You come in for most of the day, take part in a planned schedule of care, and go home when it ends. It’s for times when an hour a week isn’t close to enough, but round-the-clock supervision isn’t needed either.

Before anything starts, you’ll go through a thorough assessment covering your symptoms, your history and what you want to change. That shapes your plan. A typical day mixes one-on-one sessions with a therapist, small groups with other men, time with a psychiatric provider when medication is part of the picture, and practical sessions on sleep, stress and routine.

Because you’re here so much of the day, you get to work on things while they’re fresh. A hard night or a tough conversation at home can be talked through the very next morning, instead of waiting a week for your next appointment.

Who Partial Hospitalization Tends to Help

PHP fits men who need a lot of support right now but are safe to go home each evening. Our admissions team will talk through your situation and help you sort out whether this level makes sense. You might be a good fit if:

  • Your symptoms are getting in the way of work, sleep or basic routines
  • Weekly therapy hasn’t been enough to turn things around
  • You’re coming out of a hospital stay and want a steady next step
  • You need help with medication alongside daily therapy
  • Panic, low mood or trauma symptoms are hitting hard most days
  • Drinking or drug use is tangled up with how you’re feeling
  • You have a safe, stable place to go home to at night
  • You’re able to step away from work for a stretch to focus on getting better

What comes next

Moving Between Levels as You Get Stronger

PHP isn’t meant to last forever. As your symptoms ease and the skills start to stick, most men step down to our intensive outpatient program, which meets for a few hours at a time and leaves room for work. From there, many move on to regular outpatient sessions. Your care team stays with you through each change, so you aren’t starting over with strangers.

It can work the other way too. If someone in a lower level is struggling, moving up to PHP for a while is a normal adjustment, not a setback. And if your needs turn out to be more than an outpatient setting can safely handle, our admissions team will help you find a more intensive level of care.

What PHP includes

The Care You’ll Get Each Day

Your days combine several kinds of treatment, chosen based on your assessment. Individual therapy gives you private time to dig into what’s going on. Group sessions with other men are where a lot of the real progress happens, because you hear your own struggles described by someone else and realize you aren’t the only one.

You’ll also learn concrete skills for handling stress, communicating under pressure and solving problems when they come up. When it helps, a psychiatric provider manages medication alongside your therapy, and family sessions can bring a partner or relative into the work.

Questions

Common Questions

How is PHP different from inpatient treatment?

Inpatient care means staying at a facility overnight. With partial hospitalization, you get a full day of treatment and then go home every evening. Many men find that sleeping in their own bed and seeing family each night makes the work feel more connected to real life.

Can I work while I'm in partial hospitalization?

PHP takes up most of the day, so most men put work on hold for a while or arrange leave. Once you step down to intensive outpatient or outpatient care, fitting treatment around a job gets much easier.

How long will I be in PHP?

It depends on how you’re doing. There’s no fixed number of weeks. Your care team checks your progress regularly and talks with you about stepping down when you’re ready.

Will my insurance help pay for partial hospitalization?

We work with most major insurance plans. Check your coverage and our admissions team will look at your benefits and explain what your plan includes for this level of care.
