Anger in men
The One Feeling Men Were Allowed to Show
For a lot of men, anger was the one emotion that seemed acceptable growing up. Sadness, fear and shame got pushed down, and anger became the outlet for all of it. So when work piles up, money is tight, sleep is bad or old memories get stirred, it comes out as snapping at the kids, slamming a door or a fight that seemed to come out of nowhere.
Anger itself isn’t the problem. It’s a normal emotion, and sometimes it points to something that really does need to change. The trouble starts when it’s frequent, out of proportion or hard to come down from. That’s often a sign of depression, anxiety, trauma or chronic stress underneath, and dealing with those is what makes the anger easier to manage over time.

Treatment at Entelos
How We Help Men Get Anger Under Control
Treatment starts with an assessment of your triggers and patterns, and of what may be feeding them, whether that’s depression, trauma, anxiety, ongoing stress or alcohol and drug use. Your plan targets those roots, not just the outbursts.
In individual therapy and with cognitive behavioral therapy, you’ll learn to catch the thoughts that light the fuse and replace them with ones that help. DBT skills give you ways to slow down when emotions spike. Skills groups with other men cover communication, problem solving and handling conflict without escalating it. When it’s helpful, family sessions can start rebuilding trust at home. If anger has involved physical harm or threats, let us know up front. Our admissions team will help you find the right level of care, which may be more intensive than outpatient.

Questions
Common Questions
Can treatment here count toward a court requirement?
Entelos provides mental health treatment. If you have a court or legal requirement, tell our admissions team, and check with your attorney or the court about what will satisfy it. Many men come to us simply because they want things to be different at home and at work.
What if my anger is really about something else?
That’s often the case. Anger can sit on top of depression, old trauma or stress that never lets up. Part of treatment is figuring out what’s underneath so you can deal with it directly. Read more about how we treat PTSD.
Will I just be told to count to ten?
No. Calming techniques are part of it, but you’ll also work on how you read situations, how you communicate and what’s driving the anger in the first place. The goal is to change the pattern, not white-knuckle through it.
How do I find out what my insurance covers?
We work with most major insurance plans. Submit your insurance information and our admissions team will review your benefits with you.
